Lily Red Studio was started in Chicago in 2009. Over the years the focus of the business has shifted – from weddings to portraiture for maternity, newborns and growing families. Suzy has spent over a decade working as a photographer. Her work has been featured in various print publications and online magazines including Style Me Pretty, Modern Bride, Elizabeth Anne Designs and Pottery Barn’s Style Blog.
Meet the Founder, Suzy Rohan
I started my training as an artist in the world of graphic design. I worked for six years as a designer with a focus on design for invitations for social and corporate occasions. But I really felt I was missing out – I spent most of my time in front of a computer designing and not enough time actually connecting with my clients. At that time, blogging was becoming a big thing and I found myself following a bunch of photographers and wishing I could take pictures myself. By 2009 we had moved from NYC to Chicago and I knew I wanted to start my own business – Lily Red Studio was born. I started out designing invitations and offering wedding photography. For five years I worked in the wedding industry doing both design and photography (as well as dabbling in child and family photography). In 2014 I moved to Denver with my husband and newborn and decided I was done with the wedding industry – I still wanted to do photography, but for people like me – a new mom with a new little family. My focus shifted to photography for maternity, newborns and growing families. I love what I do and most of all that I get to interact with my clients, hear their stories and make friends with them.
My wish for you is to create something in working together that is beautiful, timeless and natural – I love to imagine your children’s children admiring a picture that I’ve taken of you and your family. My first photography teacher taught me that your work as a photographer is not complete until you have something tangible in your hands and that is something that I am a huge believer in! I’m definitely an old soul, and I love creating heirlooms for my clients – whether it’s a printed portrait that has been professionally framed or a beautifully designed coffee table book that you will have for generations. My work goes beyond the digital world (and yes, you do get digitals with your order, I’m not totally against digital) but I do want to make sure that you have something that doesn’t just sit there taking up megabytes on your computer, something you can hold in your hands and cherish.
